This presentation explores emerging research on the integration of generative AI (GenAI) into writing assessments across finance, international business, and management courses at a large metropolitan university, showcasing how AI can transform student learning and engagement in business education.
In finance courses, students used AI tools to research, draft, and refine financial reports for simulated business scenarios. By critically analysing AI outputs, students gained practical, real-world experience in using AI while developing essential financial advisory skills. Teachers aimed to foster an experiential learning environment, where human judgment and refinement ensure the relevance and accuracy of AI outputs, preparing students for the rapidly evolving role of AI in financial markets.
In international business courses, traditional essays were replaced by multimodal assignments that incorporated AI, allowing students to engage with various media forms and reflect critically on their learning. An AI chatbot was designed, developed and introduced to assist students in reflective essay writing, guiding them through deeper analysis. Although initial student adoption was low, future iterations will continue to refine the approach, acknowledging the central role GenAI will inevitably play in business education.
In an entrepreneurial course, an essay was transformed into a dynamic, multi-part task that emphasised peer feedback and leadership reflections, reimagined for the AI era. In another management course, an AI avatar of the academic was created to efficiently create personalised multimodal messages for groupwork, and to enhance the student experience.
Additionally, the presentation highlights strategic education initiatives such as co-design workshops with students and faculty to inform the redesign of writing assessment tasks and rubrics. This ongoing research explores how to foster critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application while integrating AI into academic and professional practices, and the ability to integrate AI outputs with human expertise. These ongoing innovations in business education serve as a model for other disciplines seeking to integrate GenAI in a meaningful way, positioning students to navigate an AI-enhanced future with confidence and critical insight.
