Jarrod Hodgson (@jarrodchodgson) is an ecologist currently based at the University of Adelaide. Jarrod’s research in applied ecology and conservation has taken him to diverse and wild places including remote reef systems and the subantarctic. He is particularly interested in marine mammals and birds, island ecology and invasive species management. He is also in the final stage of his doctoral research.
Jarrod’s recent research has focused on harnessing technological advances for improved environmental management. He is currently investigating the suitability of using drones to monitor wildlife, including colonial birds and seals. This research includes developing techniques to remotely assess morphological traits and population monitoring. His other initiatives include the development of best practice guidelines for using drones in the vicinity of wildlife and helping practitioners to effectively integrate this technology in their workflows.
Jarrod is an advocate for inter-disciplinary collaboration and science communication.
